PULLMAN -- Gov. Chris Gregoire recently announced the appointment of Othello-born Rafael Pruneda as the student member of the Washington State University Board of Regents for the 2012-2013 school year.
Pruneda will represent students at all of the university's campuses as the one student on the 10 member board.
He has a bachelor's degree in history and is studying for a second degree in comparative ethnic studies, plus minors in English and global studies. He has held three positions in the university's student government, the Associated Students of WSU: senator, elections board chair and assistant-director of multicultural affairs for. He also co-chaired the Chicana/o Latina/o Student Alliance.
Student board members are chosen from a pool of applicants by the Student Regent Recommendation Committee, which recommends three to five candidates to the governor, who recommends a candidate to the state Senate for approval.
Pruneda's term ends June 30, 2013.
