The Washington State Department of Natural Resources will hold a public auction to lease an almost 3,359-acre parcel for irrigated agriculture production.
The so-called "Sandpiper" parcel land is about five miles from Paterson in Benton County. State officials say it is prime ground for irrigated row, orchard and vineyard crops.
Those interested in bidding can tour the property Thursday. For more information, call 509-925-0912.
DNR bought the 3,300-acre parcel in May from Sandpiper Tree Farm using money from a land replacement account for the Common School Trust. Several hundred acres were planted with hybrid poplar. All but 214 acres of trees will be removed by Greenwood Resources within 18 months.
Sealed bids will be due at 2 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Southeast Region Office, 713 Bowers Road, Ellensburg.
