A woman was injured Thursday night after rear-ending a semi-truck that had slowed for an overturned dump truck.
The dump truck hauling coal lost its load on Highway 395 about 6:15 p.m. It was hauling coal from the scene of Monday's coal train derailment in Mesa.
The wreck happened 20 miles north of Pasco, causing coal dust to cloud visibility, said the Washington State Patrol.
The semi-truck driven by Branden M. Dion, 35, of Richland, slowed down and was hit from behind by Katya Sanchez, 21, of Beverly, troopers said.
She was driving a 1999 Volkswagen Passat. She was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, but officials had no information available about her condition.
Federal medical privacy laws can prevent them from disclosing her condition or from saying if she was transferred to another hospital.
The dump truck was driven by Willard T. Horton, 53, of North Plains, Ore.
Dion was not injured.
