A motorcycle rider from Chilliwack, British Columbia, died Sunday afternoon in a wreck on Highway 37 two miles north of Pendleton.
William Hallsworth, 60, was traveling north with a group of six motorcycle riders, according to the Oregon State Police.
About noon, he was riding second from the front of the group when his 2000 Moto Guzzi ran onto the lip of the asphalt edge of the roadway, according to police reports. When he tried to return to the pavement, he lost control and was thrown off the motorcycle, according to police reports.
Hallsworth, who was wearing a helmet and full riding gear, and the motorcycle came to rest in a wheat field east of the highway, according to the Oregon State Police. He was taken by ambulance to St. Anthony Hospital, where he died.
