Elizabeth Smart, who was kidnapped and raped at age 14 by a man who claimed God had commanded him to do so, will be the guest speaker at the Women Helping Women Fund Tri-Cities on Oct. 22 at TRAC in Pasco.
Smart has become an advocate for change related to child abduction, recovery programs and national legislation.
As founder of the Elizabeth Smart Foundation, she has dedicated her life to preventing crimes against children and providing motivation and encouragement to children who have suffered through similar experiences, according to the Women Helping Women website.
She also collaborated with the Department of Justice and four other recovered young adults on a survivor's guide, You're Not Alone: The Journey From Abduction to Empowerment.
Reservations are due Oct. 10. Minimum program donation is $100.
