The steel infrastructure for 2nd Harvest Tri-Cities' new warehouse in Pasco will be erected beginning today.
About 30 journeyman and apprentice workers from Iron Workers Local 14 in Kennewick will work through the weekend assembling the pre-engineered metal structure.
They are just one of the volunteer crews from Mid-Columbia labor organizations donating their time and expertise to the project.
In-kind donations now account for an estimated $700,000 of the building's$1.7 million cost. The regional food bank still needs to raise $600,000 to pay for materials that can't be donated in hopes of getting the warehouse open by the fall harvest.
Never miss a local story.
