About 20 firefighters from the Tri-Cities were in Adams County on Thursday to help manage a wildfire that has burned about 1,200 acres of sagebrush and cheat grass.
The fire started at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday near the Grant-Adams county line along Highway 26 between Othello and Royal City.
Firefighters from Grant and Adams counties worked through the night Wednesday to battle the blaze and a statewide mobilization was ordered early Thursday for the Milepost 31 Fire.
About 104 firefighters from northeastern and central Washington were on the scene and had the fire about 70 percent contained by Thursday afternoon, said fire spokesman Capt. Ron Fryer.
Never miss a local story.
The fire was expected to be fully contained by late Thursday or early today, he said.
There were no injuries and the cause of the fire still is under investigation.
Fire personnel from the Tri-Cities helped staff the Southeast Washington Incident Management Team. Benton fire districts 1 and 4, and Kennewick and Hanford fire departments have staff on the command team.
