Five young women walked onto the stage at the 14th annual Miss Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant, held Saturday at Pasco High School. But only one, Patricia Anyango, daughter of Grace Nyabilo of Kennewick, walked off wearing the queen's tiara.
"She just wowed the judges with her dance routine," said Elouise Sparks, pageant director.
Anyango also was named Miss Congeniality. She also received an award for selling the most pageant tickets and the academic award, which goes to the contestant with the highest grade-point average in three consecutive quarters.
First princess is Kylie Simons of Richland, second princess is Naomi Gordon of Kennewick, third princess is Kaelyn Walters of West Richland and fourth is Mariah Kensey of Kennewick.
Never miss a local story.
The talent award went to Kylie Simons and the hostess award, for selling the most program ads, went to Naomi Gordon.
Anyango's first public appearance as Miss Juneteenth Queen, along with her court, will be in the Juneteeth parade Saturday at Kurtzman Park in Pasco.
