RICHLAND -- Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire will visit Energy Northwest's nuclear power plant near Richland on Thursday to mark the extension of the plant's operating license.
Energy Northwest has been informally told by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that the Columbia Generating Station's license will be extended by 20 years. The official appro- val of the license renewal is expected Thursday or sooner, Energy Northwest said.
A license renewal will allow the plant to operate until 2043. It produces almost 10 percent of the power generated in Washington.
