Bonnie Dunbar, the retired NASA astronaut from Outlook, will present the highest honor in the Civil Air Patrol -- the Spaatz Award -- to Cadet Col. Skeetz Guilbeau on Saturday.
Guilbeau, 17, is a member of the Tri-Cities Composite Squadron, which meets weekly in Richland.
The public presentation runs from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Richland Baptist Church, 1632 George Washington Way. Dunbar's topic is Great Nations Explore: Innovation through Education in the 21st Century.
Guilbeau, who lives near Basin City and is home-schooled, spent six years as a cadet. He attended weekly meetings to learn leadership skills, study and be tested about principles of aerospace in order to rise through 10 ranks. He achieved the rank of Second Lieutenant as a commissioned officer.
Never miss a local story.
He will graduate from high school in May and has been attending Columbia Basin College in Pasco as a Running Start student.
People who plan to attend the presentation and want to meet Dunbar are asked to call 509-414-6285. Refreshments will be served.
