PROSSER -- Brenna Cherry, 16, is this year's Prosser Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year winner.
Brenna is a junior at Prosser High School and has been an active member of the Boys & Girls Club of Prosser since it opened in 2010.
"The Boys & Girls Club has affected my life by showing me how I can impact others' lives at the same time they're impacting mine," Brenna said in a news release. "Not only that, but it has given me a fun place to look forward to going and a great way to help out my community."
Every year, the Boys & Girls Clubs in Washington name a Youth of the Year to compete for the opportunity to represent their club at the state level.
Individual club winners compete today and the state winner will be announced March 22 by Gov. Chris Gregoire. The winner advances to the regional competition in California. The selected National Youth of the Year winner will receive up to $50,000 in scholarships and is installed by the president of the United States.
Since 1947, the Boys & Girls Club of America have selected the Youth of the Year to recognize club members' dedication to service, community and family activities, moral character and life goals.
