The author of a bestseller about Japanese Americans in the Northwest during World War II will speak at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Washington State University Tri-Cities in Richland.
Jamie Ford, author of Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, will be in the East Building auditorium at the campus in north Richland. Admission is free.
The book, a story about racism, first love, patriotism and family relationships, is set in Seattle and centers on the friendship between a Chinese boy and a Japanese girl when Japanese Americans were sent to internment camps and other Asian Americans wore buttons that proclaimed their ethnic heritage such as, "I am Chinese."
Ford, the great-grandson of a Chinese immigrant, will sign copies of the book, which has been on The New York Times bestseller list for more than two years.
