PROSSER -- The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation is offering a $25,000 reward for information on the illegal dumping of about 100 used vehicle tires into the Chandler Canal several miles outside of Prosser.
Authorities found the tires floating in the canal early Tuesday near the water intake structures at the Chandler power plant, about 10 miles east of Prosser where the canal joins the Yakima River, between Old Inland Empire Highway and Interstate 82.
Reclamation officials are speculating that the tires were dumped Monday evening just upstream of the power plant. The tires were removed before they could cause significant damage to the structure.
Anyone with information is advised to contact the bureau's duty officer at 888-748-7220 or seensayusbr.gov. The reward is being offered for information that leads to the conviction of the people who committed the crime.
