Excessive speed and limited visibility from dust storm conditions were factors in a five-car pileup on Highway 97 near Toppenish.
Ryan Parke, 38, of Ellensburg, was injured and transported to Toppenish Hospital for treatment, according to a news release from Washington State Police.
All vehicles were southbound on the highway. Ryan Parke, 38, of Ellensburg, was stopped in his Chevrolet Aveo on the roadway with his hazard lights on. Ruth Gilge, 65, of Silverton, Ore., ran into the vehicle from behind with her Chevrolet Tahoe, pushing Parke's car into a Dodge Ram pickup driven by Stephen Derry, 53, of Zillah.
A fourth vehicle, another Dodge Ram pickup driven by Matthew Meholchick, 19, of Greenleaf, Idaho, struck Parke's vehicle.
Meholchick's vehicle then was hit by a third Dodge Ram pickup driven by Steven Agee, 56, of Anchorage.
Parke's vehicle was totaled in the crash.
All other vehicles sustained minor to moderate damage.
