The Pasco City Council this week unanimously approved hiring LCA Architects of Seattle to design the new Pasco Municipal Court facility.
Voters approved a 0.3 percent public safety sales tax in November to pay for adding court space, a Pasco police station, gang suppression and the new and remodeled Franklin County jail.
Municipal Court likely will be on the first floor of a two-story building in front of the expanded jail.
The sheriff's office, information services and dispatch center may be on the second floor.
Municipal Court space is expected to cost just more than $3 million, including a $220,000 fee to LCA for design and construction management, $2.5 million to build a 10,000-square-foot municipal court and the city's share of common spaces and work on the site.
