SUNNYSIDE -- The nursing home and rehabilitation center formerly known as Hillcrest is planning an open house this weekend to celebrate its $3.5 million makeover and expansion.
Eagle Rehabilitation at 721 Otis Ave. in Sunnyside has increased its size by about 75 percent and bumped up its capacity for patients from 62 to 80.
The renovation added 24 private rooms, a 2,400-square-foot therapy gymnasium and a chapel.
The expansion makes way for a transitional-care unit, where the staff will offer therapy seven days a week for patients recovering from surgeries or strokes. Currently, patients must travel to the Tri-Cities or Yakima for such care.
The expansion also will lead to the hiring of nine therapists, plus more nurses and kitchen staff.
The open house will be from noon to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
