Fifth-grade students at Lewis & Clark Elementary School will test their knowledge of geography in the Richland school's first-ever National Geographic Bee competition.
The event is from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Friday in the school gymnasium, 800 Downing St.
"Sixteen students have been practicing every Thursday after school since November," teacher Deborah Madison said in a news release. "These students are interested in studying the world and (are) willing to diligently memorize scads of data about the world's geography."
The school's winner will take a written qualifying test, which will be mailed to the Washington State National Geographic Bee office to be graded.
The top 100 scorers will qualify for the state bee March 30.
