A number of Benton County sheriff's officers will be promoted Thursday, spurred on by the retirement of Capt. Al Thompson.
Thompson, the commander of the Corrections Bureau, will officially retire Saturday.
A promotion ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Benton County Justice Center, Superior Court courtroom E, 7122 W. Okanogan in Kennewick.
Current gang team Sgt. Jon Law has been appointed the new Corrections Bureau captain by Sheriff Steve Keane. Law will be replaced by patrol Sgt. Carlos Trevino, with Cpl. Mathew Clarke stepping up to be the new patrol sergeant.
Erik Magnuson will become patrol corporal, and current patrol deputies Dan Korten and Abel Suarez will fill the vacated positions on the department's gang team.
Deputy Joe Lusignan also announced Tuesday that Clerical Officer Mary Anne Hutchins is being promoted to clerical sergeant, in charge of the Corrections Bureau's clerical staff.
