An autopsy on a jail inmate, who was found dead in his cell Thursday, was inconclusive, said Franklin County Coroner Dan Blasdel.
Henry Montelongo Jr., 55, was found at 10:10 p.m. lying on the floor of his cell, but there was no sign of foul play and it does not appear to be a suicide, he said.
"Nothing jumped out at us at the autopsy," Blasdel said. "More testing is needed before we'll know how he died."
Montelongo was arrested Dec. 21 after he apparently tried to stab his mother at her home. He was arrested on suspicion of a domestic violence-related second-degree assault.
Montelongo's brother came to the mother's rescue and pushed Henry away from her, and he fell a hitting his head causing a minor abrasion, Blasdel said.
"The gash on his forehead was superficial and doesn't appear to have any connection to his death," the coroner said.
