A fire Saturday afternoon in Toppenish caused $30,000 to the home of Charlotte and Tim Batin at 251 Robbins Road, the Yakima County Fire District 5 reported.
Five people were at home when the fire broke out in the attic, spreading to the home's second floor. No one was injured, including two dogs and three cats that lived at the home. Crews also were able to save several Christmas gifts during salvage operations.
First responders to the blaze arrived and found the fire in the attic and on the second floor of the structure, authorities reported. Firefighters were able to knock down the flames, but it took some effort to control the fire in the attic. Crews had to remove several layers of roofing and old insulation.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
