A 9-year-old girl died Thursday a few hours after she was run over by an SUV in a West Richland parking lot.
Sydnee Neiman was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland after the 4:30 p.m. accident in the Gesa Credit Union lot.
Sydnee, who reportedly had a severe head injury, died just after 9 p.m.
West Richland police Capt. Al Escalera said the girl was going to the SUV that ran her over. The girl's mother reportedly was driving the SUV and believed her daughter was inside the vehicle.
Washington State Patrol crash investigators were helping with the investigation.
Sydnee was featured in a Herald story in April 2010 after she received a trip to Disney World from the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Sydnee, who was 7 at the time and attended Tapteal Elementary School in West Richland, had an incurable heart disease and was facing her fourth open heart surgery that summer.
She was born with a rare condition called truncus arteriosus. People with disease have one large artery to carry blood from their heart instead of two, according to the American Heart Association.
Sydnee told the Herald she wanted to ride roller coasters and other fast rides on her Disney trip.
