Vote tallies for Benton Fire District 6, Position 1, covering the Paterson area remained tied after updated results were released Wednesday.
Candidates Steve McClintock and Richard Jackson each have 50 votes.
Benton County Auditor Brenda Chilton said the bulk of the estimated 14,000 remaining ballots in the county will be counted today, and her office should have a better sense of whether the race will remain deadlocked or close enough to trigger an automatic recount.
Races with a difference of 0.5 percentage points or less get an automatic machine recount, but races with results less than 0.25 percentage points apart get a hand recount, according to state law.
