Highlands Middle School National Junior Honor Society will pay special tribute to veterans.
Beginning at 10:10 a.m. Thursday, the student body will welcome keynote speaker, Petty Officer 2nd Class Tom Kirchner, a Navy air crewman in Vietnam conflict and the recipient of a Purple Heart.
The assembly will honor all retired, reserved or currently serving military members, with a special focus on prisoners of war and those who are missing in action. Any veteran is welcome to attend.
The event will include performances by the school band and a reading of names of Washington soldiers listed as missing in action.
Veterans attending will be treated to a lunch buffet and can participate in classroom visits following the assembly.
