A new study from Washington State University shows that nearly 80 percent of children whose parents attended READY! for Kindergarten classes met the standard for kindergarten, compared to 55 percent of children who parents didn't attend, according to a recent news release from the local Children's Reading Foundation.
The program teaches parents and guardians how to talk, sing, read and play with children in ways that foster pre-literacy, pre-math and social-emotional skills.
Enrollment for the fall session is now open. Three class sessions are being offered. Weeknights are from Oct. 18-26; Nov. 1-3; and Oct. 15, 22 and 29. Sessions are at Kennewick school district elementary schools. Spanish classes are available Nov. 5-7.
To enroll, visit readyforkindergarten.org/kennewick. Free child care will be provided while parents are in class.
The class is free for parents in the Kennewick School District and $52 for parents outside of the district.
