FINLEY -- Earlier Saturday, a fire near Finley resulted in about $286,000 in property damage.
The fire started on about 600 acres of land on Meals Road at 9:45 a.m., when a grain combine caught on fire during harvest.
About 100 acres of stubble and wheat and 500 acres of range land burned just south of Ayers Road, said Deputy Fire Chief Mike Harris of Benton Fire District 1.
About 40 firefighters helped contain the fire by noon, using 20 pieces of equipment, including two bulldozers to cut fire lines, he said.
Never miss a local story.
The driver of the combine was treated for smoke inhalation, Harris said. No firefighters were injured.
Benton Fire districts 2 and 4, Kennewick and Pasco fire departments and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service helped extinguish the fire.
