You gotta love your rubber ducky, especially if yours comes in first in the Rotarians' 23rd annual Duck Race.
If the number on your ticket matches the one on the bottom of the first duck to cross the finish line Oct. 8, you will be driving a new white Toyota Camry.
Beginning today more than 400 members of six Tri-City rotary clubs will be selling tickets for the race. They cost just $5 and each ticket comes with two tear-off special offers.
One entitles the holder to a dinner entree, up to a $13 value, at Jack-sons Sports Bar & Restaurant in Richland.
Never miss a local story.
The second, a free 16-ounce soft drink at any Sunmart in the Tri-Cities.
"So for every $5 you spend on a Duck Race ticket, not only do you get a chance at 50 really great prizes, but you get $14 in free food and drink," said Judy Bell, a member of the Richland Riverside Rotary Club and Co-Head Duck for the 2011 event along with Scott Shinsato of the Columbia Valley Daybreak Rotary Club.
In the past 23 years, the Tri-City Rotarians have raised more than $2 million for charities, primarily Tri-City area nonprofits.
"Typically, we gross $200,000 each year selling tickets for the Duck Race," said Gregory Holben, chairman of the board for the Duck Race and president of the Richland Rotary Club.
The money is divided between the six clubs and each club then chooses which charities to support.
"They can be anything from Coats for Kids to Columbia Industries to the food banks," Holben said.
Each of the 50 prizes has been donated and Baker Boyer Bank has given the Duck Race board $15,000 to cover advertising costs.
"All the money we raise goes straight to charity," Bell said.
Tickets are available from all rotary members, at Toyota of Tri-Cities, which donated the top prize, Ranch & Home stores, Cousins Restaurant, TRAC, Garrison's Appliance, Yoke's Fresh Market stores in Pasco and Kennewick, Albertson's and Boy Scouts of America on Gage Boulevard.
A complete list of ticket outlets is on the Duck Race website, www.tcduckrace.org.
Tickets are not available online.
