RICHLAND -- Vandalism to a pump station on the Yakima River will delay irrigation to two areas in the city of Richland, officials said.
The shelterbelt, an area of trees on the east side of the bypass highway that provides a noise barrier for homes, and the stream in the nature playground at Goethals Park won't have water until possibly the end of the month.
Vandals removed the pump's valves and tubing, leaving the valve inoperable, officials said.
The vandalism was discovered when city staff were testing the new system for irrigation start-up. New parts immediately were ordered, but the parts won't be delivered until later this month.

Repairs are estimated to cost about $4,000, officials said.
