The annual Letter Carriers Food Drive on May 14 needs 150 or more volunteers to help pick up donations in the Tri-Cities, West Richland and Benton City.
Letter carriers still will continue to collect food, but in many cases people are not comfortable leaving a donation by a central "cluster box" that is not near their home.
Also, carriers who have a walking route need help hauling food donations as well.
Teams will meet in the city of their choice at a specific location, be assigned a route, drive through that neighborhood (the runner will collect the food from doorsteps and place it in the vehicle) and return to a collection site.
Organizers said it's a great opportunity for businesses, youth/church groups and families to do a community service project. The one-day event ends at 5 p.m.
