Two students and their instructors have received cash prizes for turning in the winning essays in an annual Tri-Cities speech contest celebrating Law Day.
Ethan Turnipseed of River's Edge High School in Richland got $350 for first place. Teachers Denise Rosenblum and Jackie Ives each got $150.
Second place went to Taite Hartley Rice of Rice Academy. He received $150, the same amount that went to his instructor, Terri Rice.
The contest is sponsored by Benton-Franklin Superior Court and the Benton-Franklin Bar Association.
This year's essay competition focused on the legacy of President John Adams.
