KENNEWICK — Glenn Patrick of Kennewick might not be giving up his day job as a result of winning $600,000 in the Washington Lottery’s Hit 5 game, but it will make life a little easier, he said.
Patrick, 35, picked up his winnings Friday at the Washington Lottery’s regional office in Yakima.
“I think it’s amazing,” he said of the jackpot in a phone interview.
A union carpenter who works for Bechtel National at the Hanford vitrification plant, Patrick said the money will help him and his family fast forward some plans they already had in the works.
Those plans include buying a house, paying some bills and taking a family trip to Disneyland.
“We had our plan for Disneyland,” Patrick said. “We might extend it to Disneyland and more,” possibly adding Hawaii to their itinerary, he said.
Patrick picked up the check with Jill Lawson, whom he called his “soon-to-be” wife.
“We’ve been putting off the cost of the wedding,” he said. Following through with wedding plans will be “one more thing made easier,” he said.
Two of the couple’s three children also accompanied Patrick to pick up his winnings, Aubreona, 15, and Isaiah, 13. The couple also have a 6-year-old daughter, Maliyah.
Patrick bought the winning Hit 5 ticket at the Chevron at 2610 W. Kennewick Ave.
The lottery will pay Chevron a $6,000 bonus, or 1 percent of the jackpot, for selling the ticket.
