The Tip-A-Cop fundraiser at the Red Robin in Kennewick raised more than $5,200 for local Special Olympics athletes, authorities said.
Off-duty Kennewick police officers, along with officers from other Tri-City agencies, helped servers at the restaurant Saturday and collected tips for Special Olympics Washington.
It costs $650 per year for each athlete to complete in sporting events, said Kennewick police Sgt. Ken Lattin. The money raised at Red Robin will allow eight more athletes to participate in Special Olympics this year, he said.
