HELENA, Mont.-- BNSF Railway said a snow slide near Glacier National Park has derailed 19 cars of one of its freight trains.
BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas says the train bound for Pasco was hit by the snow slide 45 miles east of Whitefish. It struck the 33rd car of a 115-car train shortly before noon Wednesday.
BNSF said the slide affected cars holding lumber, paper, plastics and boat products. None carried hazardous materials.
Melonas said equipment is being brought in to put some of the cars back on the tracks, push others off to the side and repair the tracks. He expects a crew of more than 30 workers should have the situation repaired within a day.
In the meantime, trains will be re-routed to other lines if possible.
