Tri-City officials might get their wish for flexibility on how to pay for ambulance services.
Kennewick, Pasco and Richland have asked state legislators to change a law that requires them to use a set amount of general tax dollars to pay for city ambulance operations.
The proposed bill would eliminate a requirement that cities pay at least 70 percent of the general tax money that they spent for ambulance services in 2004.
The House of Representatives passed the bill 63 to 33 on Friday. The Senate version is waiting to go to a full Senate vote.
