Park Middle School in Kennewick was locked down for about 40 minutes Friday morning after a school employee reported seeing a fight nearby with a possible gun involved, officials said.
Kennewick police were called at 11:05 a.m. after the report came in that the people involved in the altercation took off running across the soccer field, said Mike Blatman, Kennewick police spokesman.
Officers responded to the 800 block of West 10th Avenue and found no one with a weapon or any evidence of a weapon, he said.
Witnesses said nobody was fighting, but two brothers were wrestling with each other. They were not on school property, Blatman said.
The school was checked by officers as a precaution.
"There was never any threat to the school and never any altercation on school property," he said.
