PENDLETON -- Umatilla County has been given notice to expect a possible lawsuit claiming it failed to protect an employee from alleged abuse by District Attorney Dean Gushwa.
A copy of the notice the county received from Portland lawyer Thomas Doyle, the attorney for the employee, alleges that Gushwa subjected the employee to physical, sexual and emotional abuse, both on and off duty, over the course of two years.
Gushwa told the newspaper he had not seen the notice but he denied the allegations.
The Oregon Department of Justice is investigating. Gushwa took a leave from office after the initial complaint was first reported in August.
