The sound of explosions may be heard by people in north Richland and nearby Franklin County across the Columbia River on Saturday morning.
The Department of Energy plans to use explosives at 7:30 a.m. to take down the 309 Building stack in the Hanford 300 Area just north of Richland.
Two minutes later, an explosion is planned to take down the 337B Building and the 337 Building.
Explosives were picked as the safest way to demolish the structures as part of Hanford cleanup because of their height. They range from three stories high to 110 feet tall.
