PROSSER -- The Prosser City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to adopt a resolution opposing the removal of the county seat.
"The vote went as expected," said Mayor Paul Warden. "The council was offered a resolution to either support the move or not support it, and the council voted to not support the move for obvious reasons -- it would be a big financial hit on the town."
Benton County voters will decide Nov. 2 whether to move the county seat from Prosser to Kennewick
"My take on it if I were a general voter in Kennewick, Richland, Prosser, Benton City, whatever, is that it will cost taxpayers money and not improve services for anybody," Warden said.
Never miss a local story.
He pointed out there are 13 other counties in the state in the same situation with most of the population base living in other cities and the question of moving the county seat to where more county residents live is not an issue for those counties.
