The Kennewick City Council recently heard recommendations from the Block Grant Advisory Committee on distributing $448,000 in federal Community Development Block Grant dollars.
There were 12 applications totaling $879,836.
Those recommended include $75,000 for pedestrian ramps; $25,000 for audible signals; $200,000 for an elevator at the Toyota Center, $6,000 for handicap ramps requested by Catholic Family Services; $20,000 for Partners 'N Pals requested by The Arc of Tri-Cities; $45,000 for youth recreation scholarships; and $18,000 for Meals on Wheels requested by Senior Life Residential Services.
The city asked for and received a total of $345,000 for the named projects, and the city will receive another $112,000 in administrative fees.

There also is a contingency balance of $59,000.
The committee turned down requests from the Boys & Girls Club of Benton and Franklin Counties for $300,000; Tri-Cities Residential Services for $35,000; and the Historic Downtown Kennewick Partnership for $50,000.
The council is expected to vote on approving the disbursements at its Oct. 5 meeting.
