MOSES LAKE -- A Richland couple was injured late Saturday when a truck smashed into the back of their SUV, sending their car rolling onto a highway shoulder.
Lorena J. Lieske, 62, and Lloyd F. Lieske, 61, were taken to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake after the 10:06 p.m. crash, the Washington State Patrol said.
Lorena Lieske reportedly had head, neck and shoulder injuries, and Lloyd Lieske had chest and leg injuries.
A hospital spokeswoman said they were treated and released.
The Lieskes were traveling in a 2003 Honda Pilot south on Highway 17 when a 2003 Chevrolet pickup came up behind them in the right lane, according to the state patrol.
The pickup rear-ended the Honda, causing both vehicles to leave the highway to the right. The Honda rolled, coming to rest on its wheels in the shoulder area, the state patrol reported.
Both Lieskes were wearing seat belts when their Honda was hit.
The truck's driver ran away from the crash site.
A news release from the state patrol said the driver's identity is under investigation by troopers. The driver is known to be a man,
The crash occurred within the Moses Lake city limits.
