The West Richland Chamber of Commerce will take over Cool Desert Nights starting next year.
The weekend-long event draws thousands of car and motorcycle lovers.
The announcement was made Wednesday during a news conference to promote the long list of summer activities — including the classic car, hot rod and motorcycle show — sponsored by HAPO Community Credit Union.
Cool Desert Nights "is definitely an incredible event that the (Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce) has put on for years, and we're hoping to be able to continue that," said Dan O'Neill, president of the West Richland chamber board. "This is a great event for us to take over, and a great opportunity for the West Richland chamber and for the area."
This year's Cool Desert Night still will be organized by the regional chamber. It's the event's 25th anniversary.
The regional chamber announced in 2017 that it was bowing out of coordinating Cool Desert Nights and the annual River of Fire fireworks display, saying the events no longer aligned with its mission of supporting businesses.
Tri-City Water Follies is taking over River of Fire.
HAPO sponsors both those events, along with several more around the Tri-Cities in the summer. "We love when summer rolls around," said CEO Steve Anderson. "We're thrilled to sponsor (so many events) and be part of this community."
