Hermiston High School’s graduating seniors might not flip their tassels and toss their caps at their school this June.
The school board might move the Class of 2018’s graduation ceremony to the Toyota Center in Kennewick.
The move would save the district about $4,500 and mean almost triple the capacity for family members and guests.
It also would mean a date change. If the ceremony is at the Kennewick facility, it would tentatively start at 7 p.m. on June 7, a Thursday.
It it stays at the high school, it would be at 10 a.m. June 9, a Saturday.
The district wants students, parents, teachers and other community members to weigh in via a short survey at tinyurl.com/hermistongrad.
It’ll be up until Sept. 22.
The school board looked at other possible venues besides the Kennewick facility, including Eastern Oregon Trade & Event Center and Kennison Stadium, both in Hermiston.
They were ruled out because of facility, financial and personnel constraints.
