A Benton County deputy changed lanes and struck a pickup truck on Interstate 82, five miles west of Prosser, Thursday night.
Deputy Michael Hinkle was driving a 2015 Ford Explorer patrol SUV east in the left lane. He changed lanes and hit a black Dodge Dakota pickup in the right lane driven by Miguel G. Sanchez, 49, of Sunnyside, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Sanchez received a minor injury and taken to PMH Medical Center in Prosser. Hinkle wasn’t hurt.
The patrol SUV was towed from the scene, said Benton County Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Caughey.

The WSP is investigating the cause of the collision and the sheriff’s office plans an internal investigation.
Hinkle is a four-year veteran with the sheriff’s office and has a good driving record, said Caughey.
