Benton REA members voted in favor of the sale of rural electric facilities within the Yakama Nation Indian Reservation to the Yakamas’ electric utility, the REA announced Wednesday.
The vote was 3,458 to 384 in favor of the deal, estimated at $24 million.
A simple majority in favor was needed, with at least 25 percent participation of REA members before voting closed Monday. The 3,842 valid ballots submitted represented more than 33 percent of the REA membership.
The transfer of the Benton REA electric accounts within the boundaries of the Yakama Nation Indian Reservation to Yakama Power will take place Dec. 1.
