A man rented a van in Chicago, drove it about 5,000 miles, and was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle in Pasco on Tuesday.
Chicagoland Truck Rental reported the van stolen. The rental agreement was for in-state use and after a week, they found it had been driven to Mexico and to Pasco, said Sgt. Scott Warren. The company used a GPS tracking system to locate it.
The company remotely shut down the van and called the police. The suspect reportedly called a tow truck company to have the van moved for repair.
Police found the vehicle and the driver, Jody Williams, 23, of Chicago, who was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle.
“There was nothing suspicious in the truck,” said Warren.
Williams allegedly told police he bought the van from another man. Officers determined he was the man who rented it in Illinois.
