Ann Chirinko reviewed up to 500 résumés a week while working as a recruiter for BP — she knows what catches the eye and what makes eyes roll.
Chirinko, 55, has operated Rittenhouse Résumés in Kennewick for eight years. There are fewer than a dozen certified professional résumé writers in the state, and she is the only one in the Tri-Cities. In a digital age of do-it-yourself documents and online templates, Chirinko remains a practitioner of a bygone art.
“The No. 1 sin people commit when they write their own résumé is they grossly undersell themselves,” she said. “And that’s a big reason why I discourage people from going through those free templates online.”
A résumé and cover letter package costs $100 and includes three free revisions in the first two weeks. Additional revisions cost $25 to $50. Rittenhouse Résumés retains no proprietary rights or copyrights.
Chirinko’s process starts with an interview. She gets to know her clients, learning their strengths and most-marketable assets. Résumés are crafted and delivered in less than five working days. Express jobs can be done for extra.
Her clientele ranges from high school seniors to corporate executives.
Chirinko applies applicant tracking system technology to her résumés to ensure they pass the electronic gauntlets guarding the gates of corporate hiring. ATS programs identify keywords and disregard some formatting used in templates such as italics.
“I’ve made a tidy little fortune from cleaning (that) stuff up,” Chirinko said.
She’s also adept at marketing “ocean-front real estate” — the top quarter of a résumé first seen by employers.
“If you don’t wow me in that top quarter of the page, you’re going to lose me,” Chirinko said.
Chirinko holds business degrees from Tulane University and Troy State.
