KENNEWICK -- After 32 years in business in Kennewick, Naturally Gloria is closing its doors after today.
But the doors will reopen next month when new owner Marla Barnhart launches the second branch of Marla Junes Clothing Company, which she runs in Pendleton.
Gloria de Palacio, owner of Naturally Gloria, has operated out of Marineland Village on Clearwater Avenue since 1998, but began the process of selling the boutique women's clothing store in August of last year. She previously owned shops in the Yakima Valley.
De Palacio expects Marla Junes Clothing Company to open in early August.
Naturally Gloria features hip clothing and accessories geared for women 35 and up, de Palacio said. Barnhart plans to target a similar market niche.
"We specialize in unique fashion that maybe you're not going to find at the mall," Barnhart said. "It's fun, fabulous and fashionable."
De Palacio said Marla Junes Clothing Company not only took over her lease but purchased the merchandise, fixtures and props already inside the store. She said Marla Junes also should sell shoes -- something not offered at Naturally Gloria.
After more than three decades in the clothing boutique business, de Palacio said it's not going to be easy to close shop and walk away.
"It's kind of bittersweet, of course," she said. "I've had a lot of people come in and express to me how much they're going to miss the store."
But she knows the future of the location is in good hands.
"I feel very positive about the people who purchased my store," de Palacio said. "I feel very optimistic and hopeful."
