Construction on the $41.9 million expansion of the Tri-Cities Airport terminal in Pasco can begin.
The Port of Pasco received the building permit for the project Friday, which will just about double the size of the terminal.
Bouten Construction Co. is the port's general contractor/construction manager for the project.
The remodel will move the staircase, elevator and restrooms to the front of the terminal to open up the area near the security checkpoint.
The ticketing and baggage areas will expand and a new concourse will be built beyond the security area with gates to the right and left.
Construction on a sewer replacement project already is under way at the airport.
Officials will celebrate the groundbreaking of the full project with a short ceremony at 10 a.m. Aug. 1. The ceremony will be on the parking lot on the right hand side of the airport. The public is welcome to attend.
