Pasco's Claar Wine Group has received the Central Washington State Fair Ruth Anglin award for best Syrah and a gold medal for its 2010 Claar Cellars Syrah.
This is the second year Claar Wine Group, also known as Claar Cellars, has won this award, as the winery's Ridge Crest Syrah won the same award in 2013. The Ruth Anglin award is a best of class award.
The winery's 2011 Ridge Crest Merlot also recently was scored 93 points and received the Chairman's Trophy at the 2014 Ultimate Beverage Challenge. The 2011 Ridge Crest Merlot competed was among 29 Merlots entered from around the world.
Owners Bob and Crista Whitelatch, who opened Claar Cellars in 1996, own the following brands and labels: Claar Cellars, Le Chateau, Nicola's redmark, Chateau Walla Walla, Ridge Crest and Kelso.
