Change is under way at the Valley Mall in Union Gap.
Several stores have closed, including longtime staple Winnie's Hallmark. Arts and craft store Michael's opened at the Valley Mall Plaza, filling a vacancy left by the closure of Borders several years ago.
Meanwhile, Roxy's Shoes moved out of the Valley Mall and into the Rainier Square development on Nob Hill Boulevard.
But now the Valley Mall is undergoing a major construction project that will create space for new tenants, including Buffalo Wild Wings.
Union Gap public works and community development deputy director David Spurlock said the city issued a building permit for the demolition and re-configuration of several spaces near Macy's.
Roxy's Shoes is one of the spaces that will be renovated. Other spaces housed Fashion Bug, Payless Shoe Source and the Cafe Capri coffee shop.
"We're all tore up right now," said Valley Mall manager Allie Stewart.
One key result of the renovation is the new restaurant space for Buffalo Wild Wings, a popular sports bar and chicken wing chain. The eatery will likely open sometime this fall, i.e. for football season.
Cafe Capri, which moved to a temporary space near Kohl's, will return to the renovated area.
Payless Shoe Source will move to the Valley Mall Plaza in a space currently occupied by Maurices. Maurices, in turn, will relocate to the former Eddie Bauer outlet space.
Stewart said there are new tenants slated for those spaces.
"It's safe to say that area will be occupied by end of the year," she said.
Stewart also said there are new tenants planned for the Coldwater Creek space, which is in the process of closing, and the former Hollywood Video space at the Valley Mall Plaza.
