RICHLAND -- The Lofts at Innovation Center is holding a grand opening for its new apartments in north Richland.
The grand opening will be held from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the clubhouse of the apartment complex, at 2895 Pauling Ave.
The $19 million complex includes 160 units in the first and second phase, which received permits from the city in the past few years.
The complex is in the Tri-Cities Research District, near Washington State University Tri-Cities and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
The apartment complex developer is Innovation Center at Tri-Cities Research District. The company is owned by investors Wayne Perry and Cal Cannon, former executives of McCaw Cellular Communications, which became part of AT&T Wireless, has taken the lead in developing the research district.
The research district, which was formed in the early '90s by community stakeholders, includes adjacent properties owned by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Washington State University Tri-Cities and the Port of Benton.
It's one of 11 innovation partnership zones in the state, and its goal is to attract research and development jobs to support all of the Tri-Cities.
Food and drink at the grand opening will be provided by "That Place" Brew Pub, a new restaurant located in the Innovation Center at University Square. Those who attend are eligible to enter to win three months free rent. The winner will be drawn July 31.
